The Civil War marked a radical break in the modernization of Spain. The antimodern, traditionalist nature of Franco’s regime, together with economic autarky, led to a severing of connections with the outside world. Traditionalist-inspired furniture in a period style was the great touchstone of the period from 1939 to 1959.
